I decided to start writing about our treks into the wilderness to inspire others to get out there and enjoy nature. Too often outdoor enthusiasts are somewhat of elitists when it comes to certain activities and I think that discourages people from getting out there. There is a lot of jargon that goes along with any type of hobby. Hiking, camping, and backpacking are no exceptions. Not to mention the subcategories of all of three of these activities. There are thru-hikes, section hikes, day hikes, lightweight, ultra lightweight and the list goes on.
I encourage anyone who has a passion for spending time in nature to get out there and enjoy. Our goal for sharing these adventures is to be an inspiration for people to get out and follow their dreams. Don’t let limited resources discourage you. Marcie and I are prime examples of people with a finite budget. Over the course of a year, we saved money, shopped smart and found great deals. We bought a few pieces of gear at a time and now we have all our necessities, now we shop for our wants.
Whatever your goal is for the time you spend in the outdoors, be true to it. If you are a car camper, we say do it to the fullest. Your thing may be thru-hiking. We say, no pain, no rain, no Maine. If you are an elitist lightweight backpacker. Good for you! Section hiker? That’s awesome! Treat yourself to whatever it is that you enjoy. That’s what we do. Don’t limit yourself to some blog post you read. Don’t be intimidated because you can’t get your pack weight down five ounces, like that guy you read about online. Just enjoy your time with nature and above all be safe.
