Cottonwood Patch Campground, located in the Chattahoochee National Forest, is primarily a horse camp. The campground is on the banks of the Conasauga River, just south of the border of Tennessee.

I have been wanting to check out Cottonwood Patch for some time and I finally got the chance in the middle of October.
I arrived at about 2 pm on a Monday and the place was completely empty.

I really like the campground, but it being mid-afternoon in a horse camp, there were a lot of bugs flying about, so I opted to set up camp elsewhere.

I returned the next morning to film around 10 am and there were no bugs at all. This is pretty typical of the south, so don’t let my afternoon experience discourage you from checking this place out for yourself. Just be prepared to share the campground with equestrians, if you visit.

My advice would be to plan afternoon activities to avoid the afternoon insects. There are plenty of hiking trails to roam for the day close by.
